The 950B stripping coal.

Seen in it's "Natural Environment" the 950B dwarfs the smaller equipment working in the foreground. The 950B's hollow dipper handle was considerably lighter than previous designs, and allowed the dipper to be extended to a length of 72 feet. This weight reduction also allowed a larger 33 cubic yard bucket to be utilized.

The use of the 72 foot dipper and a 105 foot boom, allowed for working distances of up to 250 feet from the centerline of the machine. On a 180 degree swing, material could be dumped up to 500 feet away from the point where it was picked up.
