The "GEM of Egypt", was the sister shovel
to the Silver Spade.
The GEM of Egypt, was the second and last Bucyrus
Erie 1950B shovel ever produced, It was also the last shovel BE made
that used the "Knee Action crowd".
The GEM got her name from the area in which she was
working, the "Little Egypt Valley" near Barnseville Ohio.
(Note:
The word GEM is always
capitalized, it's an acyronyn for Giant Earth Mover)
The machine was built in 1966, and but into
service in January, 1967.
