The

GEM of EGYPT

JUST ADDED
PICTURES OF THE GEM BEING BUILT
& (UNFORTUNATELY) SCRAPPED

The "GEM of Egypt", was the sister shovel to the Silver Spade.

The GEM of Egypt, was the second and last Bucyrus Erie 1950B shovel ever produced, It was also the last shovel BE made that used the "Knee Action crowd".
The GEM got her name from the area in which she was working, the "Little Egypt Valley" near Barnseville Ohio.
(Note: The word GEM is always capitalized, it's an acyronyn for Giant Earth Mover)
The machine was built in 1966, and but into service in January, 1967.
